Maryville University School of Education
Kwame Building Group Endowed Scholarship
In August 2009, KWAME established a new teaching scholarship at Maryville Univeristy. The scholarship is for students who have an associate's degree from a St. Louis area community college and are seeking teacher certification.
"As student diversity has increased throughout Missouri's schools, we are committed to doing everything possible to increase the supply of diverse teachers," said Sam Hausfather, PhD, dean of Maryville University's School of Education. "This generous gift will help Maryville University respond to the real needs of area schools and of our students who need this important assistance."
Education students applying for the scholarship will be asked to write an essay on their desire to teach and the imperative of giving back to one's community. The scholarship will be awarded to qualified applicants who are from underrepresented populations and who demonstrate financial need.
